Kestrel is proud of our team

Since we transitioned to Kestrel Coal Resources, we have achieved a lot in a very short time, and we are very proud of our people. Kestrel boasts a supportive, friendly team of approximately 600 based in Emerald, that feel more like family, plus a small team in Brisbane who regularly visit site.

We are a diverse group from all walks of life. We are professional, but we don’t take ourselves too seriously and love welcoming new members. We have fun weekly team challenges that keeps uson our toes and helps raise money for our local charities. At Kestrel, we always look out for each other. Everyone who steps on site is part of the Kestrel team, no matter what they do or where they come from.

We stand by our values and work collectively to achieve the results our success is built upon. We are engaged in the community, we care for our environment, and each other.

We are Kestrel.

We have a lot happening

Here at Kestrel, who we are and what we stand for is essential. Our team has been working hard to develop and define our new values. We are nearing the end of this process and for several weeks we have been rolling these out internally; now it is time to share them with the world. Check out our values pages to read them and make sure to watch the videos.

We also know communication is important, both internally and externally. As you can see, we have a new website and we are currently working on increasing our activity on social media. We will be introducing our team and highlighting what we are doing as a company. We plan to engage more with the community and help our neighbours, plus release regular site news and updates so you can keep up to date with all things Kestrel.

Our Community

The majority of our site-based people live in Emerald, which is a town of around 15,000 people from all backgrounds; it is not just another mining town. Emerald is located in the central highlands of Queensland 271kms west of Rockhampton. Originally an agricultural town, Emerald is surrounded by cotton, cattle, sunflower and citrus fruit farms.

Emerald is one of Queensland’s larger rural centres offering a range of cafés and restaurants, seven primary schools and three high schools, a racecourse, aquatic centre, seven gyms, a golf course, a BMX track, cricket/netball/touch, Rugby Union and League fields, a wide variety of retail outlets and shopping centres, hardware and car dealers.

Emerald has its own airport with multiple daily flights direct to Brisbane.

Learn more about our operation

Kestrel is an underground coking or metallurgical coal mine that produces around 7.1M tonnes of coal annually. Our team’s capability covers the entire mining process: development or primary extraction including cutting roadways, cut-throughs, roof and wall ribs, ventilation and power supply, and longwall moves. Longwall mining or secondary extraction including cutting along the LW block in between headings. Plus, the operation, care and maintenance, or the outbye, that transports the coal to the surface.

Coal is transferred to the CHPP via 8kms of overland conveyor. The Kestrel North processing facility is a dual-module, with circuits consisting of dense medium bath, dense medium cyclones, and flotation. Metallurgical and high ash coking coal product are then railed to Gladstone, with all reject material hauled as dry disposal.

Our Development

The future of Kestrel Coal Resources

We will build on the strength of our owners and the strength of the Kestrel Mine asset to expand production. It will cement its position as a high-quality large-scale underground metallurgical Coal producer. It is well positioned with excellent Coal resources, long-established mining operations and a stable and skilled workforce.

Kestrel Coal Resources is proud to be a Coal miner and we plan to build on the successful foundations of the existing Kestrel Mine. We will deliver a successful long-term, large-scale underground Coal mining operation for our owners, customers, employees and communities.

AT KESTREL We stand by our values and work collectively to achieve the results our success is built upon.
