The Kestrel VAM Abatement Project
The emissions generated by ventilation air in an underground mine represents a significant challenge for the coal mining industry worldwide. These emissions are generated from the very low concentrations of methane and carbon dioxide which are contained in the high-volume flowrates of ventilation air, circulated throughout the underground workings to ensure the safe operation of the mine. With concentrations of methane ranging from 0.2% through to 0.6% this methane is well below the lower explosive limit of methane and the concentration at which the gas would ignite to combust the methane to carbon dioxide.
Consistent with Kestrel’s 2024 Decarbonisation Strategy, Kestrel is pursing Regenerative Thermal Oxidation (RTO) technology to be reduce the greenhouse gas emissions associated with this emissions source.
As a large capital project, delivery will involve sourcing a number of procurement packages. Kestrel is committed to providing full, fair and reasonable opportunity for Australian industry to supply goods and services to the project.
The major procurement packages include:
- Multi-discipline engineering services
- Independent engineering peer review and verification services
- RTO equipment supply
- Balance of plant (mechanical, electrical, instrumentation and valving) equipment supply
- High voltage and low voltage power distribution and motor control equipment fabrication and supply
- Structural steel, platework, piping fabrication and supply
- Civil Construction
- E&I Installation and Construction
- SMP Installation and Construction
Kestrel is seeking expressions of interests for all packages. If you would like to obtain more information please contact Jodi Lee (he/him), Planning and Strategy – Manager Projects, jodi.lee@kestrelcoal.com.
